What makes a research article.. a research article? Ripeta researchers Sarah Nathan, Leah Haynes, Jessica Meyer, Josh Sumner, Cynthia Hudson & Leslie McIntosh sought to investigate this question in the latest publication of Quantitative Science Studies.

This study analyzed the markers of a research article based on section headings and titles to develop and train machine-learning and natural language processing models to identify when a manuscript is a research article. The study was conducted across 12 publishers including both research articles and non-research articles.
